In Partnership with Sweaty Betty
Getting Sports Bras to Girls Who Need Them
We know that around 70% of teenage girls are put off physical activity because they don’t have the right, or any, sports bra. Sweaty Betty have run two successful campaigns around International Women’s Day, where for every sports bra they sell they’ve donated one to our Foundation.
So far, we’ve received nearly 10,000 sports bras and partnered with 20+ grassroots community organisations, charities and schools to get the bras to the girls who need them most. We know that just giving the bras isn’t enough, so we’ve also developed our own sports bra workshops to educate the girls about the importance of wearing a sports bra, as well as how to fit one correctly.
Reimagining the Sports Hijab
Muslim girls who choose to wear a hijab have told us that they can sometimes be a barrier to participating in sports. For example, most hijabs aren’t breathable or sweat-wicking, so they’re uncomfortable during activity and school requirements mean girls have to either remove them entirely or take out the fastenings, which means they slip down. Many girls can’t afford, or don’t like, the current sports hijabs on the market.
We’re partnering with Sweaty Betty, This Girl Can Leeds and sports activist Lipa Nessa to develop a new sports hijab design especially for teenage girls. Watch this space with more updates to come in 2024!
“It’s so cool that we got given sports bras. It’s so hard to find one that supports you enough to take part in PE, I can’t wait to try it out.”
“I’ve been wearing my bra for athletics. It feels so comfy, and I like knowing I’m secure.”
